A proposal for a third year class of a Secondary School

Until recently the main emphasis in the teaching of elementary mathematics has been on the teaching by problems. There are many equations or inequalities in mathematics the role of which is to guarantee the existence of certain mathematical solutions. In this paper we present a problem proposed in a third year class of the Secondary State School that can be solved by using a quadratic equation, a quadratic inequality and combinatorial considerations on integers.
