Abstract
This research aims to study the role of moral development and problem-solving styles in life
satisfaction. The statistical population of this research consisted of the students of the Science and
Research Branch of the Islamic Azad University in the academic year 2011-2012, and from this
population, 137 students of the different fields of studies were sampled. The tools used for this
research were problem-solving questionnaire of Cassidy and Long (1996), moral development
scale of Manavipour (2012), and life satisfaction scale of Diener et al (1985). The results showed
that there was a significant correlation between problem-solving styles and life satisfaction. In
contrast, no significant relation was observed between problem-solving styles and moral
development. The results of regression test showed that 0.27 percent of the variance of life
satisfaction is explained by problem-solving styles and moral development. Moreover, among the
subscales of moral development and problem-solving styles only control and confidence styles
were able to predict the life satisfaction.
