Bis[3-(4′-substituted phenyl)prop-2-ene]disulfides as a new class of antihyperlipidemic compounds

A series of bis[3-(4′-substituted phenyl)prop-2-ene]disulfides were prepared and their hypolipidemic activities were examined in hypercholesterolemic Wistar rats. Introduction of an electron withdrawing group to the phenyl ring in the parent compound led to the identification of compound 8 as a potent and efficacious hypolipidemic agent.
