Abstract
Background
High-risk types of HPV are the primary cause of cervical cancer.
Objectives
This article reports HPV screening and diagnosis from a survey evaluating community-based physicians’ screening, testing, and clinical practices for sexually transmitted diseases.
Methods
Surveys mailed to physicians (n = 7,300) obtained information on patients they screen for HPV and cases of HPV diagnosed.
Results/conclusions
Seventy percent (70%) of the physicians returned completed surveys. HPV screening was most frequently conducted in female patients by obstetrician/gynecologists and family practice physicians.
