A characterization of PSL(3,q) where q is an odd prime power

Order components of a finite group are introduced in Chen (J. Algebra 15 (1996) 184). We prove that PSL(3,q) can be uniquely determined by its order components where q is an odd prime power. A main consequence of our result is the validity of Thompsonʹs conjecture for the groups under consideration.
