Building a nursing leadership infrastructure

Health care is overwhelmingly a people business. Its product, delivered by people, is the most personal one imaginable. Despite the ongoing introduction of new technology, the industryʹs reliance on personal contact will not substantially change in the foreseeable future, especially the front-line contact of nurses. Against this background loom the problems of nursing turnover and a persistently significant number of open positions. Nursing shortages escalated during the 1990s and will continue to grow for several years, especially as the baby boom demand for health care services increases
