Abstract :
Nursing literature has indicated that production pressures in hospitals have forced nurses into an accelerated work pace that has stripped them of the meaning of their profession and removed the joy of caring for others that nurses so desire.1 Nursing leaders must find affective ways to rekindle the meaning in the nursing profession and help nurses reconnect with their true missions. This discussion focuses on the concept of applying metaphor to create a sense of meaning and community in nursing departments and to challenge nursing leaders to appeal to the emotional needs of valuable nursing staff members.
