Triangularizable semigroups of matrices

Necessary and sufficient conditions for triangularizability of a semigroup S of n × n matrices over a field K are given. They reduce the problem to the case of groups of matrices. It follows also that the global requirements concerning all elements of S can be replaced by “local” conditions concerning the sets of elements of S of the same rank.
