Abstract :
The fireflies of the island Pulau Sakar off the coast of Lahad Datu, Sabah were surveyed. Two species, Pteroptyx similis and Pteroptyx gelasina, both endemic to Borneo were found on the mangrove trees fringing the coast. A threat to the firefly population was the establishment of oil palm plantation, with the removal of mangrove vegetation and pollution to the mangrove ecosystem caused by application of chemicals.
