Abstract :
Dynamic economic dispatch (DED) is one of the most significant non-linear problems in power systems. The purpose is determining the optimal power outputs of available generating units in order to meet the load demand subject to satisfying various operational constraints over a certain period of time. In real power systems, the valve-point effects should be considered that makes the DED a non-smooth and non-convex optimization problem. In this paper a Directed Searching Optimization (DSO) algorithm is used to solve the DED where the valve-point effects, ramp-rate limits, power losses and initial power of units are taken into account. A renewable energy source and its impact are analyzed, too. A five-unit test system for a period of 24-hours is studied to validate efficiency of the used method. The results are compared with other approaches and demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method.
