Synthesis and characterisation of two dimeric mixed-ligand cadmium(II) complexes with 1,3-dithiole-2-thione-4,5-dithiolate and diimines

Two dimeric mixed-ligand cadmium(II) complexes, [Cd(dmit)(bipy)]2 (1), [Cd(dmit)(phen)]2 (2), where dmit22 ¼ 1,3-dithiole-2-thione- 4,5-dithiolate(2 2 ), bipy ¼ 2,20-bipyridine, phen ¼ 1,10-phenanthroline, have been synthesized and characterized by infrared spectrum, UV–vis, 1H NMR and X-ray structure analyses. Complex 1 is monoclinic, P2(1)/c, with a ¼ 11:6128ð14Þ; b ¼ 9:3967ð12Þ; c ¼ 14:7629ð18Þ A ° , b ¼ 107:582ð2Þ8; V ¼ 1535:7ð3Þ A ° 3, Z ¼ 4; and Dc ¼ 2:011 g/cm3. Complex 2 is monoclinic, P2(1)/c, with a ¼ 9:2924ð12Þ; b ¼ 12:4663ð11Þ; c ¼ 15:0116ð15Þ A ° , b ¼ 105:403ð4Þ8; V ¼ 1676:5ð3Þ A ° 3, Z ¼ 4; Dc ¼ 1:937 g/cm3. Both dimers are extended into interesting one-dimensional supramolecular arrays by short Cd· · ·S contacts and p–p stacking interactions among dmit22 groups. q 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
