Abstract :
Thallium(I) sulfate and sodium salt of m-nitrobenzenesulfonate when reacted in 1:2 molar ratio in water resulted in the formation of white
crystalline solid Tl(m-NO2C6H4SO3). The solid-state structure for this product was established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both Tl(I)
cation and the sulfonate group display high co-ordinating ability: one thallium(I) cation is surrounded by nine oxygen atoms and one
sulfonate anion is coordinated to six different thallium(I) cations. The crystal can be viewed as consisting of alternating double molecular
organic and inorganic layers.
