Abstract :
Personal names in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean appear not only in domestic publications but also in publications of foreign regions in original, transcribed, and transliterated forms, and produce misleading searches and confusion among information users. National bibliographic control in China, Japan, and Korea is reviewed to determine the status and common tasks. Three workshops were held discussing name authority control in the region in 2001 and 2002. IFLA’s work on UBC/IM as well as FRBR and VIAF were introduced in the workshops to set a framework for regional development. Future regional cooperation was pursued among national bibliographic agencies in East Asia. [Article copies available for a fee from The Haworth Document Delivery Service: 1-800-HAWORTH.
