Abstract :
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd ed. (AACR2) rule 1.0E1
allows title and statement of responsibility, edition, publication
and/or distribution data, and series title to be “transcribed from
the item itself in the language and script (wherever practicable) in
which it appears there.” However, AACR2 will be replaced by a set
of guidelines entitled Resource Description and Access (RDA). This
article compares various guidelines from the November 2008 draft
of RDA that are applicable to transcribing titles and names written
in non-roman languages and/or scripts with their counterparts in
its predecessor.
