Abstract :
WedocumentlargedifferencesintrendchangesinhoursworkedacrossOECDcountries
between 1956and2004.Weassesstheextenttowhichthesechangesareconsistent
with theintratemporalfirstorderconditionfromtheneoclassicalgrowthmodel,
augmentedwithtaxesonlaborincomeandconsumptionexpenditures.Wefindthatthe
modelcanaccountformostofthetrendchangesinhoursworkedmeasuredinthedata.
