Abstract :
The job-searchproblemofcouplesdiffersinsignificantwaysfromthatofsingles.We
characterizethereservationwagestrategiesofacouplethatperfectlypoolsincometo
understandtheramificationsofjointsearchforindividuallabormarketoutcomes.Two
cases areanalyzed.First,whencouplesareriskaverseandpoolincome,jointsearch
yieldsnewopportunitiesrelativetosingle-agentsearch.Second,whenspousesreceive
job offersfrommultiplelocationsandincuracostwhenlivingapart,jointsearch
featuresnewfrictionsandcanleadtoworseoutcomesthansingle-agentsearch.
