Abstract :
Introduction: The increasing usage of electrical and electronic instruments caused a
growing exposure to electromagnetic fields; the aim of this study is the Study of effect of
electromagnetic fields (EMF) on apoptotic mitochondria cells in hippocampus of rat.
Methods and Materials: In an experimental study in anatomy department of Tabriz
university of medical sciences we studied 24 rats of wistar race in the form of two case
and control groups, we used a device to product electromagnetic field with an intensity of
3 micro tesla,the rats in case group was exposed to the electromagnetic field 4 hours a
day, after 10 weeks rats was killed with anesthesia and their hippocampus was studied
for apoptotic changes.
Findings: The ultra-structural changes was significantly higher in the case group, the
numbers of apoptotic cell was also more in the case group.(P < 0.001).
Conclusion: mitochondria Cell damage can be the cause of negative effect of
electromagnetic fields and unnecessary prolonged exposure should be avoided.
