Abstract
The design effort for a control system is mainly determined by two aspects: complexity of the process to be controlled and the control requirements. The paper describes a method to design the structure and to optimize the parameters of the control of a given river reach under consideration of the control requirements with a minimum of design effort as well as realization effort. The design is including water level control and flow control of the river.
