Abstract :
We implemented a hydrodynamic lattice gas cellular automation with rest particles on bonds to study the behaviour of granular media in a two-dimensional closed container under the influence of dissipation, static friction and gravity. The problems posed by rest particles on bonds are described and our solutions (rules and algorithm) are discussed. Starting our simulations with a random distribution of particles on the lattice we study the motion of the centre of mass for different sets of dissipation and gravity parameters. The roughness of the surface is measured for different system sizes (after all particles have stopped moving).
