A contrast in kinetics of gravity controlled wetting

The macroscopic state of wetting of a solid substrate by a binary liquid is presumably due to the formation of mesoscopic wetting layers, yet the observed contact angle can apparently equilibrate well in advance of the wetting layers themselves. This effect sets limits on the underlying distance scales that are important for macroscopic wetting behavior.
