Abstract :
A key problem in condensed matter physics is the absence of a ‘working theory’ of ion transport in glass. An attempt is made to lay the foundations for such a theory which takes full account of the richness of the experimental phenomenology. Based on the ‘dynamic structure model’ of Bunde et al., a new approach is suggested, where ‘free volume’ percolates along conduction pathways in dynamically determined (but largely static) glass structures
