Abstract :
It is assumed that patients and health professionals engagement in the process of guideline development, can improve the shared decision-making and patients adherence to treatment recommendations. It can bal-ance the power among patients and caregivers and enhance the quality and feasibility of prepared guide-lines. The aim of this study is developing participatory guideline on care of adults with Myocardial infarction through community based participatory research approach
Methods: A community-based participatory research (CBPR) study with the collaboration of patients in the central hospital of zone 17 of Tehran conducted to develop evidence based participatory guidelines on car-diovascular diseases. Patients who were affected by the issue participated in semi-structured individual in-terviews. The emerged themes were used for adapting existing guidelines. The quality of existing guidelines appraised through AGREE (Appraisal of Guideline Research and Evaluation) instrument.
Results: The patients collaborated around shared goals of voicing unique healthcare concerns to inform the development of clinical culturally-competent care guidelines. Adopted guidelines prepared on cardiovascular diseases.
Conclusion: Community-based participatory research is critical to facilitate patient’s role in developing ap-propriate clinical guidelines and engaging patients as active participants in every phase of the guideline de-veloping process.
