  • Abstract
Voltage sag which is generally caused by short circuits may cause sensitive equipment to malfunction and process interruption. Many papers have investigated the voltage sag compensation suing fact devises such as DSTATCOM. But in few papers the economical-technical aspect of this compensation has been discussed. The most paper have investigated the various methods for voltage sag compensation from point of view the designed control system for sag tracking, detection and mitigation and none of them has discussed the economic aspect of this procedure. This paper presents worth/cost assessment of the compensation of voltage sag using DSTATCOM in distribution system. Economical and technical aspects of this compensation have been considered and analyzed in this research. Installing of DSTATCOM needs to spent cost including capital cost and operation cost. Of course due to DSTATCOM installation, many benefits have been obtained. One of the main benefits is increasing reliability of system due to decreasing interruption of sensitive customers. In this paper a trading off among all of costs and benefits of installing DSTATCOM has been performed. The benefits of this installation has been analyzed based on receiving income due to increasing reliability level of system using reliability indices such as the average system interruption frequency index (ASIFI), the momentary average interruption frequency index (MAIFI) and energy not supplied (ENS).
