Abstract :
Functional dyspepsia (FD) has considerable negative impact on quality of life. Many FD patients in China were prescribed Shugan Jieyu (SJ) capsule as well as prokinetic drug. This study aims to confirm the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine SJ capsule for the treatment of FD through system evaluation. Relevant publications were identified by searching Medline database, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure database, Chinese Biomedical Literature database, and Wanfang database. Study selection, data extraction, quality assessment, and data analyses were conducted according to Cochrane Collaboration procedures. Nine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in total met the pre-stated inclusion criteria. All included trials had an unclear risk of bias. The summary odds ratio for symptom improvement was 3.57 (95% CI: 2.53-5.05), indicating FD patients with SJ -mosapride combination treatment have over 3.5-fold higher probability of symptom relief compared with the patients with mosapride monotherapy. The summary odds ratio for recurrence rate was 0.18 (95% CI: 0.09-0.37), indicating a significant decrease of recurrence rate of SJ -mosapride combination treatment. SJ-mosapride combination treatment might be an effective therapeutic regimen for FD patients. The benefit need to be confirmed in rigorously designed, multicentre, and large-scale trials.
