Abstract :
The aim of this study is to identify the way in which the international community, through organizations set up by it, contributes to the development of a satisfactory solution for the disposal of radioactive waste, by regulating its various aspects. Our underlying intention is to demonstrate that the adoption of international standards and agreements enables safety and security obligations to be incorporated into technical solutions, and, above all, that the Stateʹs common declared intention to guarantee the protection of man and his environment helps to promote public confidence. First the main international organizations within the sphere of nuclear energy in general will be listed. Secondly the standards and agreements formulated under the auspices of these organizations, which directly or indirectly refer to the issue of disposal, will be identified and briefly commented on. Our point of view on the extent of this international legislative activity and its influence on the general public is contained in the conclusions of this study.
