Abstract :
Lamiaceae is subdivided in to two major groupings viz; the Lamioideae and Nepetoideae. The genus Mentha includes 25 to 30 species that grow in the temperate regions of Eurasia, Australia and South Africa. Grows as wild in various regions of Iran. M. spicata is used in
Iranian traditional medicine as a stomach pain-relieving agent, antispasmodic, digestive and carminative. The aerial parts of (M. spicata L.) were collected from three ecotypes namely; Kashan (S1), Mahallat (S4) and Tange-takab (S9) Isfahan province, in 2012. The aerial parts of plant analyzed and identified by using GC/MS in Islamic Azad University, Khorasgan (Isfahan) branch. The aim of the present work is to extraction and identification of the components of (Mentha spicata L.( in three ecotypes Isfahan province. The 16, 17 and 21 compounds were identified in aerial parts (S9), (S1) and (S4) province, respectively. The major components in (S9) province were; Carvone (54.34%), 1,8-Cineole (21.78%), Borneol (5.82%), dl-Limonene (5.2%); The major components in (S1) province were; Piperitenone oxide (58.87%), 1,8-Cineole (22.71%), trans-Caryophyllene (4.59%); The major components in (S4) province were; 2-Cyclohexen (42.74%), 3,8-Menthadiene (21.58%), 1,8-Cineole (8.41%), Pulegone (6.83%), 1-P-Mentha-1,8-Diene (6.1%). In general, (S9) province contained the highest Carvone. Over all, ecotypes harvested from Kashan and Tange-takab are promising genetic stock for increasing piperitenone oxide and carvone as medicinal components in breeding programs.
