On the solution of an inverse scattering problem in one-dimensional acoustic media Original Research Article

A non-linear iterative procedure is presented to estimate the interface position parameters in one-dimensional layered acoustic media. Results on the differentiability of the solution of the model with respect to the parameters are obtained using the energy method. A Newton-type identification algorithm is implemented using finite element techniues to compute approximations to the solution of the forward model and to the derivative with respect to the parameter. Numerical experiments illustrating the application of the algorithm are presented.
