Abstract
The investigation focuses on the development of hp-adaptive methods for simulation of acoustical scattering problems. The present formulation is based on steady-state linear elasticity equations coupled with the Burton-Miller integral equation, representing the behavior of a surrounding acoustical medium. The highlights of the proposed approach include:
•
• a mathematically consistent variational formulation of the problem.
•
• an hp-adaptive FE/BE approximation based on standard Galerkin methods.
•
• an element by element solver.
•
• a residual-based, a posteriori error estimate.
•
• an hp-adaptive strategy.
Particular attention is given to asymptotic convergence and to a comparison of theory and numerical simulations.
