A posteriori error estimation—the relationship between different procedures Original Research Article

To address the issue of accurate and efficient estimation of the discretization error of the finite element solution, the relationship between different types of error estimators is investigated. We found that some of the widely used error estimators are in fact related, although they were originally derived from different methodologies. The recognition of the relation between these error estimators provides a different viewpoint on the theory of a posteriori error estimation and a guidance in the development of the error estimators.
