Abstract
A concise formulation and an efficient method of solution for free vibration of thick, shear deformable plates have been presented in Part I of this paper. An efficient numerical algorithm is developed here and executed on various computational platforms. Numerical results show that, upon classifying the symmetries of vibration modes, as much as 40% to 65% of the execution time can be saved for single symmetry classification; and as much as 45% to 85% of the execution time can be saved for double symmetry classification, while maintaining the same level of accuracy. In addition, memory requirements can be considerably reduced. A set of comprehensive frequency parameters is presented and the frequency trend is discussed. The conclusion is reached that the transverse-dominant vibration frequencies are dependent on plate thickness while the inplane-dominant vibration frequencies are insensitive to variations in thickness.
