Abstract
The authors propose a concept of axes of meshing for a gear drive with crossed axes of rotation. The axes of meshing represent a couple of crossed straight lines L(I) and L(II) that satisfy the following requirements: (a) rotation about L(I) and L(II) provide the given relative screw motion; (b) the common normal to contacting surfaces intersects axes of meshing. Particular cases of axes of meshing are considered. Interpretation by Plueckerʹs linear complex of the necessary condition of existence of envelope to family of surfaces is discussed.
