The piecewise exponential method (PEM) for the numerical simulation of wave propagation: a multidimensional wave problem Original Research Article

This paper presents the extension of the PEM scheme for the case of multidimensional wave problems. This is done on the basis of operator splitting and the PEM scheme for the one-dimensional wave equation given in the previous publication (V. Zalizniak, Commun. Numer. Meth. Engrg. 13 (3) (1997) 163–171). Numerical results for two problems of wave propagation in comparison with the analytical solutions are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for elastodynamics.
