Abstract
Using the kinematic description of the revised Mindlin model, the Lagrangian strain derived by Li and the Fe formulation of the degenerated 3-D solid, we propose an exact finite deformation theory for plate and shell. The theory eliminates the need for the restrictions imposed by the existing simplified theories such as small strains, small rotations or small loading steps. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the theory compared with 3-D continuum theory.
