Abstract :
Particular integral formulations are presented for two- and three-dimensional soil consolidation (poroelasticity) analysis. The steady-state poroelasticity equation is used as the complementary solution and a set of global shape functions is considered to approximate the transient terms of the poroelasticity equation to obtain the required particular integrals. Some numerical results for four example problems are given and compared with their analytical solutions or the results from the convolution method developed earlier by Dargush and Banerjee [Int. J. Numer. Meth. Engng. 28 (1989) 2423, J. Appl. Mech. 58 (1991) 28].
