Abstract :
The problem of smart laminated sandwich plates involves inter-dependent mechanical and electric fields. The mechanical/structural component is modelled by an elegant plate theory, which ensures inter-laminar shear stress continuity and satisfies stress free condition at the plate surfaces. Moreover, this theory contains unknowns at the reference plane only. The electric field is modelled by layer-wise theory to retain generality. The solution of the resulting problem is based on an element developed for this purpose. It satisfies C1 continuity at element interfaces as demanded by the present plate theory. Numerical examples are solved to study the static response and its control.
