Abstract
In this paper, linear constitutive equations of magnetoelectroelastic media involving mechanical, electric and magnetic fields are presented. An energy function is defined. A system of finite element equations for the magnetoelectroelastic media is formulated from the variational principal. A finite element code is developed for the coupled electromagnetoelastic analysis. The finite element modeling is utilized to study the behavior of a crack in a magnetoelectroelastic medium. The deformed crack with a yet-to-be-determined crack shape, and the coupling between the deformation of the crack and the electromagnetic fields inside the crack are investigated. This is referred to as the “electromagnetic natural boundary condition (EM-NBC)”. A systematic strategy for the analysis of EM-NBC is given and the results are compared with those obtained from the traditional impermeable and permeable crack-face electromagnetic boundary conditions.
