Abstract :
Inrecentyears,theintegrityofreactorpressurevessels(RPVs)underpressurizedthermalshock(PTS)accidenthasbeentreatedasoneofthemostcriticalissues.UnderPTScondition,thecombinationofthermalstressduetoasteeptemperaturegradientandmechanicalstressduetointernalpressurecausesconsiderabletensilestressinsidetheRPVwall.Asaresult,cracksontheinnersurfaceofRPVscanexperienceelastic–plasticbehaviorthatcanbeexplainedusingtheJ-integral.Insuchacase,however,theJ-integralmaypossiblyloseitsvalidityduetotheconstrainteffect.Thedegreeofconstrainteffectisinfluencedbytheloadingmode,thecrackgeometryandthematerialproperties.Inthispaper,three-dimensionalfiniteelementanalysesareperformedforvarioussurfacecrackstoinvestigatetheeffectofcladthicknessandcrackgeometryontheconstrainteffect.Atotalof36crackgeometriesareanalyzedandresultsarepresentedbythetwo-parametercharacterizationbasedontheJ-integralandtheQ-stress.
