Abstract :
Itisbelievedthatthenumericalsimulationofthermal-hydraulicphenomenaofmultiphase,multicomponentflowsinareactorcoreisessentialtoinvestigatecoredisruptiveaccidents(CDAs)ofliquid-metalfastreactors.Anewmulticomponentvaporization/condensation(V/C)modelwasdevelopedtoprovideageneralizedmodelforafastreactorsafetyanalysiscodeSIMMER-III,whichanalyzesrelativelyshort-time-scalephenomenarelevanttoaccidentsequencesofCDAs.ThemodelcharacterizestheV/Cprocessassociatedwithphasetransitionthroughheat-transferandmass-diffusionlimitedmodelstofollowthetimeevolutionofthereactorcoreunderCDAconditions.Theheat-transferlimitedmodeldescribesthenonequilibriumphase-transitionprocessesoccurringatinterfaces,whilethemass-diffusionlimitedmodelisemployedtorepresenteffectsofnoncondensablegasesandmulticomponentmixtureonV/Cprocesses.VerificationofthemodelandmethodemployedinthemulticomponentV/CmodelofSIMMER-IIIwasperformedsuccessfullybyanalyzingaseriesofmulticomponentphase-transitionexperiments.
