Abstract :
TheeffectofflowobstaclesonfilmboilingheattransferinaverticalupwardtubeisinvestigatedexperimentallyusingR134aasacoolant.Theresultsshowthatflowobstaclesenhanceheattransferdownstreamoftheobstacleandpromoterewettingtooccurinthisregion.Therewettingzoneisfoundtoincreasewithadecreaseinqualityattheobstaclelocation,andwithanincreaseinmassflux,buttheeffectofpressureisinconclusive.Therewettingeffectisstrongestneartheobstaclelocation,andweakenswithdistancefromtheobstacle,i.e.atlocationsaxiallydownstreamfromtheobstacleandcircumferentiallyawayfromtheobstacle.Thecharacteristictimeisfoundtobeagoodcorrelatingfactortocharacterizetheeffectofmassflux.Thepredictionfromthepost-dryoutlook-uptable,afterapplyingtheappropriatefluid-to-fluidmodelingtechnique,isinreasonableagreementwiththeexperimentalresults.
