Abstract
ExperimentalfacilitieslikeHTR-10,HTTR,andASTRAserveasthesourceofinformationforthecurrentlydesignedhightemperaturegas-coolednuclearreactors.Itisalsodesiredtoverifytheexistingcodesagainstthedataobtainedinsuchfacilities.Inthisstudy,firstcriticalitycalculationsofapebblebedgas-cooledreactor,HTR-10,isperformedwithMCNP-4B,acodesystemforMonteCarloparticletransportsimulation.HTR-10hasratheruniquecharacteristicsintermsoftherandomnessingeometryasinthecaseofallpebblebedreactors.ThegeometricalmodelofthefullreactorisobtainedbyusinglatticeanduniversefacilitiesprovidedbyMCNP.Modelingdetailsarediscussedwithnecessarysimplifications.ResultsobtainedbyMonteCarlosimulationsarecomparedwithavailabledata.ItisobservedthatMonteCarlosimulationsyieldsufficientlyaccurateresultsintermsofinitialcriticalityoftheHTR-10reactor.
