Abstract
Theloadcarryingcapacityofthepressurevesselheadtowithstandapostulatedin-vesselsteamexplosionhasbeeninvestigated.Formerresultshavebeenconfirmedandextended.Foraquiteconservativereferencecasethemechanicalenergyreleasewhichtheheadcancarryturnsouttobeatleast1GJ.Themechanicalenergyreleasefromin-vesselsteamexplosionspostulatedcanbeexpectedtobesignificantlylower,andthereforewillnotrupturethevesselheadandnotendangerthecontainmentintegrity.
