Abstract :
One-dimensionallinearstabilityanalysiswasperformedforsingle-phaselead–bismutheutectic(LBE)naturalcirculation.TheNyquistcriterionandarootsearchmethodwereemployedtofindthelinearstabilityboundaryofbothforwardandbackwardcirculations.ItwasfoundthatthenaturalcirculationscouldbelinearlyunstableinahighReynoldsnumberregion.Increasingloopfrictionmakesaforwardcirculationmorestable,butdestabilizesthecorrespondingbackwardcirculationunderthesameheating/coolingconditions.Thecharacteristicwavelengthofanunstabledisturbanceisroughlyequaltotheentirelooplength.
