Abstract
SafetydemonstrationtestsusingtheHighTemperatureEngineeringTestReactor(HTTR)willbeconductedforthepurposeofdemonstratinginherentsafetyfeaturesofHighTemperatureGas-cooledReactors(HTGRs)aswellasprovidingthecoreandplanttransientdataforvalidationofHTGRsafetyanalysiscodes.Thefirstphasesafetydemonstrationtestitemsincludethereactivityinsertiontestandthecoolantflowreductiontest.Inthereactivityinsertiontest,whichisthecontrolrodwithdrawaltest,onepairoutof16pairsofcontrolrodsiswithdrawn,simulatingareactivityinsertionevent.Thecoolantflowreductiontestconsistsofthepartiallossofcoolantflowtestandthegascirculatorstriptest.Inthepartiallossofcoolantflowtest,primarycoolantflowrateisslightlyreducedbycontrolsystem.Inthegascirculatorstriptestoneandtwooutofthreegascirculatorsarerundown,simulatingcoolantflowreductionevents.Thegascirculatorstriptests,inwhichpositionofcontrolrodsarekeptunchanged,aresimulationtestsofanticipatedtransientswithoutscram(ATWS).
