Abstract :
ThepaperpresentsanevaluationofRELAP5-3Dcodesuitabilitytomodel-specifictransientsthattakeplaceduringRBMK-1500reactoroperation,wheretheneutronicresponseofthecoreisimportant.CertainRELAP5-3DtransientcalculationresultswerebenchmarkedagainstcalculationresultsobtainedusingtheRussiancomplexneutronic-thermal-hydrauliccodeSTEPAN/KOBRA,speciallydesignedforRBMKreactoranalysis.Comparisonoftheresultsobtained,usingtheRELAP5-3DandSTEPAN/KOBRAcodes,showedreasonablemutualagreementofthecalculationresultsofbothcodesandtheirreasonableagreementwiththerealplantdata.
