Abstract :
nimprovedlook-uptableforfilm-boilingheat-transfercoefficientshasbeenderivedforsteam–waterflowinsideverticaltubes.Comparedtoearlierversionsofthelook-uptable,thefollowingimprovementsweremade:

Thedatabasehasbeenexpandedsignificantly.Thepresentdatabasecontains77,234film-boilingdatapointsobtainedfrom36sources.
•
Theupperlimitofthethermodynamicqualityrangewasincreasedfrom1.2to2.0.Thewiderrangewasneededasnon-equilibriumeffectsatlowflowscanextendwellbeyondthepointwherethethermodynamicqualityequalsunity.
•
Thesurfaceheatfluxhasbeenreplacedbythesurfacetemperatureasanindependentparameter.
•
Thenewlook-uptableisbasedonlyonfullydevelopedfilm-boilingdata.
•
Thetableentriesatflowconditionsforwhichnodataareavailableisbasedonthebestoffivedifferentfilm-boilingpredictionmethods.
Thenewfilm-boilinglook-uptablepredictsthedatabaseforfullydevelopedfilm-boilingdatawithanoverallrmserrorinheat-transfercoefficientof10.56%andanaverageerrorof1.71%.Acomparisonofthepredictionaccuracyofthelook-uptablewithotherleadingfilm-boilingpredictionmethodsshowsthatthelook-uptableresultsinasignificantimprovementinpredictionaccuracy.
