Abstract :
SMARTisanintegraltypereactorof330MW,whichenhancesitssafetybyadoptinginherentsafetydesignfeatures.ThermalhydrauliccharacteristicsoftransientsinheatremovalbyasecondarysystemfortheSMARThavebeencarriedoutbymeansoftheTASS/SMRandMATRAcodes.Theprimary,secondary,andpassiveresidualheatremovalsystemsRHRSoftheSMARTweremodeledproperly.Then,asetoftransientsforthewholesystemwasinvestigated.TheresultsoftheanalysesusingtheconservativeinitialandboundaryconditionsshowedthatthesafetyfeaturesoftheSMARTdesigncarriedouttheirfunctionswellandtherewasastrongmoderatortemperaturecoefficientduetothesolubleboronfreereactoraffectedbythetransientbehavior.Thenaturalcirculationwaswellestablishedintheprimaryandpassiveresidualheatremovalsystemsduringthetransientsandwasenoughtoensureastableplantshutdownconditionafterareactortrip.
