Abstract :
TMIandChernobylaccidents,havingpronouncedimpactonnuclearindustries,triggeredthegovernmentsaswellasinterestedinstitutionstodevotemuchattentiontothesafetyofnuclearpowerplantandpublic’srequirementsonnuclearpowerplantsafetywerealsogoingtobestricterandstricter.Itisobviousthatsafetylevelofanordinarylightwaterreactorisnolongersatisfactorytotheserequirements.Recently,thesafetyauthoritieshaverecommendedtheimplementationofpassivesystemtoimprovethesafetyofnuclearreactors.PassivesafetysystemisoneofthemaindifferencesbetweenChineseadvancedPWRandotherconventionalPWR.Theworkingprincipleofpassivesafetysystemistoutilizethegravity,naturalconvection(naturalcirculation)andstoredenergytoimplementthesystem’ssafetyfunction.Reactorswithpassivesafetysystemsarenotonlysafer,butalsomoreeconomical.ThepassivesafetysystemofChineseadvancedPWRiscomposedofthreeindependentsystems,i.e.passivecontainmentcoolingsystem,passiveresidualheatremovalsystemandpassivecoremakeuptankinjectionsystem.Thispaperisasummaryofexperimentalresearchprogressonpassivecontainmentcoolingsystem,passiveresidualheatremovalsystemandpassivecoremakeuptankinjectionsystem.
