Abstract :
Thetransientresponseofathick-walledpipesubjectedtoageneralizedexcitationoftemperatureontheinternalsurfacewasderivedusingDuhamel’srelationship.Generalizationofthetemperatureexcitationwasachievedbyusingapolynomialcomposedofintegral-andhalf-orderterms.Inordertoavoidtheevaluationofrecurringfunctionsinthecomplexdomain,Laplacetransformationanda10-termGaver–Stehfestinversionformulawereusedtoperformpartofthenecessaryintegrations.Excellentagreementbetweenthederivedrelationshipsandexistinganalyticalandfinite-elementsolutionswasseenforathick-walledcylindersubjectedtoanasymptotictemperatureriseontheexposedsurface.Asintended,theuseofasmoothedpolynomialallowstheincorporationofempiricaldatenoteasilyrepresentedbystandardfunctions.Moreover,theresultingrelationshipsareeasilyprogrammedandcanbeusedforawiderangeofnuclear,piping,andcylindricalvesselapplications.
