Abstract :
ToprovidebiaxialfailurebehaviorcharacteristicsofconcreteofastandardKoreannuclearcontainmentbuilding,theconcretespecimenswiththedimensionsof200mm×200mm×60mmweretestedunderdifferentbiaxialloadcombinations.Thespecimensweresubjectedtobiaxialloadcombinationscoveringthethreeregionsofcompression–compression,compression–tension,andtension–tension.Toavoidaconfiningeffectduetofrictionintheboundarysurfacebetweentheconcretespecimenandtheloadingplaten,theloadingplatenswithTeflonpadswereused.Theprincipaldeformationsinthespecimenswererecorded,andthefailuremodesalongwitheachstressratiowereexamined.Basedonthestrengthdata,thebiaxialultimatestrengthenvelopesweredevelopedandthebiaxialstress–strainresponsesinthreedifferentbiaxialloadingregionswereplotted.Thetestresultsindicatedthattheconcretestrengthunderequalbiaxialcompression,f1=f2,ishigherbyabout17%ontheaveragethanthatundertheuniaxialcompressionandtheconcretestrengthunderbiaxialtensionisalmostindependentofthestressratioandissimilartothatundertheuniaxialtension.
