  • Abstract
    Themostcommonlyusedmethodintheseismicanalysisofstructuresistheresponsespectrummethod.Forseismicre-evaluationofexistingfacilitieselasticresponsespectrummethodcannotbeuseddirectlyaslargedeformationaboveyieldmaybeobservedunderSafeShutdownEarthquake(SSE).Theplasticdeformation,i.e.hystereticcharacteristicsofvariouselementsofthestructurecausedissipationofenergy.Hencethevaluesofdampinggivenbythecode,whichdoesnotaccounthystereticenergydissipationcannotbedirectlyused.Inthispaper,appropriatedampingvaluesareevaluatedfor5-storey,10-storeyand15-storeyshearbeamstructures,whichdeformbeyondtheiryieldlimit.Linearelasticanalysisisperformedforthesamestructuresusingthesedampingvaluesandthestoreyforcesarecomparedwiththoseobtainedusinginelastictimehistoryanalysis.Adampingmodel,whichrelatesductilityofthestructureanddamping,isdeveloped.Usingthisdampingmodel,apracticalstructureisanalysedandresultsarecomparedwithinelastictimehistoryanalysisandthecomparisonisfoundtobegood.
